The collaboration of both the firms on Azure Edge Zones aims to boost the application performance for their customers through extending Azure capabilities to the operator’s 5G network edge. The 5G network edge will be helpful for the customers in metro areas where latency issues may hamper application performance. According to reports application developers will also use Azure Edge Zones.
Microsoft Azure Edge Zones that will be connected 5G network of AT&T will provide different services. The services to the AT&T include Azure Kubernetes Service, Public IP, Private Link, Azure Standard Load Balancer, Azure Virtual Networks, and Azure Virtual Machines.
Microsoft is using 5G network of AT&T to provide audio and video streaming to musicians through its network edge capabilities. The network edge capabilities are also being used by EVA in its autonomous drones. AT&T through the network edge capabilities of Microsoft aims to provide enhanced mapping services, better navigation, and voice services for cars. In addition to this, enhanced online mobile gaming services and remote medical care services are also the focus of AT&T.
Azure Edge Zones is currently at private preview stage in Atlanta. The Microsoft will expand the Azure Edge Zones services through AT&T’ 5G network in other metro areas as well. Both the firms are collaborating on 5G and other edge technologies for quite a while now. This collaboration brings showcases their strengthened partnership goals. Similar strategic alliances were announced last year and in 2019.
