Microsoft Researchers Detail Vulnerability Existed in macOS That Could Help Attackers Steal User Data

Microsoft Researchers have recommended users to install the latest update on their systems as it has found a vulnerability that existed in macOS that can easily help attackers gain user data. Microsoft Researchers said that the vulnerability can bypass the technology controls of the system and steal the protected data of the user.

The vulnerability impacts the Transparency, Consent, and Control (TCC) of the system which is available for the users since 2012. TCC helps users set privacy settings of their applications running on the system. Dubbed “powerdir,” it can attack the existing application of the user installed on the Mac computer, install their own app and gain control over the hardware like microphone or camera to steal sensitive data and leak it or use it for financial gains.

The new version has been released in the last month. For systems having older hardware the flaw was fixed in macOS Big Sur 11.6.2 release. The Microsoft Researchers said that the users that are using older macOS version are still vulnerable and may lose sensitive data.
